Very interesting topic! Exciting to see open innovation used in the healthcare industry and hopefully can speed up R&D for critical diseases. As an industry developed based on IP system, I agree with a few comments above that how to license and protect IPs would be the big challenge when implementing open innovation system. Also, I would like to understand the pharmaceutical experts about what will impact their choices of open innovation platform to contribute. Will Pfizer, a big company with a lot of resources, be the right company to promote open innovation?

I love this idea of customization in store by 3D printing. Definitely would love to try out! The footwear stores like to promote value adding service of customizing the shoes as avid runners need to find shoes with an optimal fit for specific foot size and shape. I totally agree with your worry about in-store traffic and customization demand beyond functionality. I am wondering whether Adidas can combine the special design and 3D customization to make this a distinctive offer to fans. I believe this will create more buzz than offer it as a standard product.

Very interesting article! I was of the impression that 3D printing cannot produce such delicate items as pieces of the planes. So it’s surprising to read that Boeing is making great progress in this direction. Thanks for sharing! I could see the benefit of cost reduction and efficiency increase. But as a customer, the most important factor I would consider is safety rather than cost. I would love to see more research or testing before they actually roll out a new design with 3D printing manufacturing.

Thanks for sharing! It seems to me that there are two main routes to evolve investment. One route is to turn human into machine such as the Bridgewater’s approach, and the other one is to turn machine into human, like what DE SHAW and a bunch of other hedge funds that are trying to adopt machine learning. I would vote for diversifying trading strategies, simply because nobody can tell which route is going to evolve faster — human or machine.

Great Article! I agree that getting developers onboard will be the key for building VR ecosystem. And I understood from my friend, who is the founder of a traditional game company, that the VR content development is not as hard as it may seem to be and the main reason that they won’t invest in VR games is the poor ROI caused by lack of real players. So I agree with your skepticism that the VR headsets might not attract the developers in the short run and the company should invest in the pain point — funding.

Interesting topic that you brought up. I think the cashier-less and self-help model will be the next trend for retail business because it’s effective in cost cutting and margin improvement. However, I went to a few cashier-less stores this year and the customer experience was not very good. For a “lazy” customer like me, I just feel it will be far more convenient if someone can get what I want and provide service like chatting and promoting. So in terms of the future of cashier less business, I am more worried about the tradeoff between operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
