Very interesting article! I have heard a lot about blockchain in the financial services industry, but it is very interesting to see it applied in other industries. I do see the problem with getting the suppliers on board, since they initially see no incentives for doing so. The perks seem to be all on Walmart’s side, as a method of control. Aligning incentives so that suppliers see the benefit would be key. I also understand this would be a costly investment. Therefore, I am not sure about the cost benefit analysis even though I recognize that in an more and more health – conscious world, the origin of food is being given a higher importance than ever before. Walmart would have to measure the benefit it would derive on both providing this assurance to the customer and reducing food waste.

Amazing article! Very interesting to see the breakeven point for the company would be 100,000 shoes. Echoing the above comments, I do think they have indicated a number that seems too low. However, I see the value in the competitive advantage this could be for Adidas, clearly positioning it apart from its competitors and at the cutting-edge of technology. With the right Marketing strategy, Adidas would have the opportunity to go viral with this product. With sport shoes more and more focused on customization and analysis of the customers’ type of footstep, 3D printing would take it to the ultimate level. In addition, the current trend for health conscious and sports makes customers more interested about new products in this industry. I struggle to believe the numbers, but if they do make financial sense and the shoes are priced at a reasonable level, then I would definitely be one to want to try these 3D printed shoes!

Amazing article! 3D printing of organs can truly be a game-changer in the healthcare industry. I wanted to touch upon the capital investment you mention for research and development. I expect that there is already Government funding given, but I would be and advocate of firmly supporting these initiatives from a public policy perspective. 3D printing can help as lead longer, healthier lives and in my opinion one of the most important roles of Governments is creating the right support structure to foster this innovation in healthcare.
To your question regarding the scope of products to focus on, I would recommend focusing on 1 or 2 given the high costs of the developments and the importance of ‘getting it right’. In addition, and applying the concept of experiential learning, I believe that they could then apply their learnings of their first products to develop the others.

Very interesting article! It is scary to think the power the hackers have (and could potentially have) in our world. As we become more and more dependent on technology (autonomous cars, for example), it is frightening to think the impact that someone with bad intentions could have – without moving from home and hiding behind their computer. I see this as an initiative that says ‘we need all the help we can get’ on this issue – and there is undoubtedly a lot of tech talent in the world, that goes beyond the people that actually go through their IT recruiting processes. I think it is a marvelous initiative and I would hope that other countries take this as seriously as the United States Department of Defense, and also implement these type of initiatives within their Government Security systems.

Awesome article on a very interesting topic! This leads me to think about how much information you can gather from a person using social media, and how much of it is actually true. We tend to show our best face in social media, and may be very different in reality. I would be interested to see the accuracy in the delivery of a more holistic image using social media versus what the person truly thinks of himself (ie. what he/she answered in the OK Cupid questions) and how the application weighs what is true and not. It is undoubtedly very useful for the purpose of identifying fake users/creeps and an invaluable benefit to the users – and to society as a whole.

Very interesting article! I do think this technology that will replace cashiers is the way to the future. I wonder how this will impact the Amazon online sales of groceries, since the target market of both can overlap: namely people that prioritize speed when buying their groceries. However, I do think there is the market for people that actually want to see and touch the products, and have the fast shopping experience too. It will be very interesting to see how this technology expands in the future.
