This is an amazing article, Ian. I hope to see more financial institutions leveraging technology to make an advancement in their competencies. Also, I like the idea on open innovation in public municipalities, the place where it is considered to be very far away from technology. However, I am not sure how investors would react to ideas generated from the open innovation. I think the role of middleman would be vastly crucial to sort out the ideas that are relevant. I am very excited about the synergy that open innovation can achieve in communities and financial industry.

Thank you for the amazing article. I think ethics is a huge issue in the healthcare, especially when it involves human organs. As you mentioned, it will produce a lot of potential as well as benefits to the overall human health when it gets used in the clinical settings for the drug test. However, I am also worried about who will get the power from this innovation. Not only FDA, but government should play a crucial role in limiting its usage and defining the right use of the technology. Also, as life expectancy increase due to the advancement of technology, government should find a solution to the problem arising from the aging population.

Thank you for the great article. I did not know Lego used open innovation for the product development. I wonder the sustainability of open innovation, and how company does not lose its identity as it crowdsource the data from outside.
I also have an article to share about Lego’s perspective on their product development. ((https://www.redassociates.com/press-1/2015/8/18/strategybusiness-legos-serious-play). It talks about how Lego behaves more like an anthropology department. It mentions how Lego has attacked the question of why we play from many angles, including watching kids’ brains under an MRI to see which parts light up when playing with different toys. I think if Lego successfully define what “play” means to the kids and adults customers, it can find an opportunity to mingle digital and physical to create the value for the customer.

Amazing article! I am more excited to see the use case of 3D printing that Nike will use in the future. I think Nike should have a control on design, but use 3D printing as a customization for the better fit on a foot. Also, Nike can utilize additive manufacturing to pilot their products in the market faster than before. I wonder how other sports industries are using additive manufacturing as a means of improving their process and design, and how Nike can go step further by using additive manufacturing as their competitive edge.

On November 15, 2018, Disneyinnovation commented on Grammar(ly): Who sets the rules? :

Very interesting article! I’m a heavy user of Grammarly and I always wondered how it worked and why Microsoft words could not do the proper grammar check as Grammarly does. I agree with Aditiya that Grammarly could learn more from the published sources, however, on non-fictions or scholarly journals. I guess that the primary user for Grammarly will use it for the formal business document or school essays that need to be checked. I also wonder wihch data set can they use for their product, since published sources might have a copyright issue. I also wonder how it uses different algorithm from Google Translate.

On November 15, 2018, Disneyinnovation commented on Disney World: The Happiest Place on Earth (at a 99% Confidence Interval) :

I just went to Disneyworld last weekend, and having experienced how Disney advanced from the past impressed me, especially for the Avatar region. Besides the usage of wearables and ML, they are also using virtual reality as well as augmented reality. Even though they are trying to achieve customer satisfaction through MagicBands and data from them, I think there are a lot of opportunities where ML as well as technology can come into play in Disney. For example, they can use their mobile app to play games with each other while customers are waiting in line. I really like your idea on creating the customized daily itineraries. It is very painful to figure out which ride I should get on. Thank you so much for writing the interesting article!
