Interesting post about hotel industry!
As you mentioned slightly on your article, I think the effect of Airbnb would be different to the different segments of hotel industry. Luxury hotel chains would be less affected from the advent of Airbnb because they can provide different values such as customized service and easy access to swimming pool and fitness center.
However, lower-priced hotels need to figure out ways to compete with Airbnb because their only merit have been low cost. In my opinion, attracting business travelers and adopting reward program are not suitable options for many lower-priced hotels. Close association with travel agency could be a possible option because Airbnb cannot host many number of customers at once. Are there any other competitive-edge for lower-priced hotels?

Interesting post about an alternative for current education system!
Despite all of above mentioned merits, I think one of the inherent problem of online education system is inability of forcing students to focus on the class. Not being in the same place at the same time with the teacher and other students negatively affect students’ concentration, and use of computer further distract students from studying. If Khan Academy could solve this problem, their new education system would be much more efficient.

Interesting post about future city!
I think it is inarguable that all of those infrastructure enhancement projects will benefit Dubai citizen and will make Dubai as more business friendly city. However, it looks like those projects will cost a lot. Are those plans economically feasible as of now or does Dubai government make excessive investment for long-term purpose?

Interesting post about future of museum!
I agree that museums can attract more people by actively adopting newly invented digital technology. However, I am little bit worried about possibility of damaging aura of masterpiece. One of the reasons why still many people are visiting museums even though they can see all those famous paintings at their home through internet is to feel the aura of authentic masterpiece. The way masterpieces are displayed and difficulty to access to masterpieces contribute to the creation of aura in the museum. So, I think museums should be careful to not hurting the serious mood of traditional museum when they are adopting new digital technology.

Interesting post about airline industry!
It looks like Emirates are trying hard to differentiate themselves by actively adopting digital technology. However, as a potential customer, I am worried about some of their new strategies such as having access to my GPS locations and possibility of price discrimination. To maximize positive effects of their new technology and minimize potential risks, Emirates should be careful about customers’ potential concerns regarding personal information and unfair discrimination.

Interesting post about unique industry!
I agree to your opinion that American Seafoods Group’s approach is too limited given the threat posed by climate change to their business. However, it looks like this is tough situation for the company because their contribution to the climate change is limited. It would be good if they try to reduce carbon emission from their ships, but I think the volume is too small. Therefore, no matter how hard they try, the fishes will be gone anyway if the temperature rose for other reasons. I think much easier solution would be catching fish in other regions, where the average temperature is lower than their current fishing area, such as northern part of pacific ocean or the arctic ocean.

Interesting post about oil and gas industry!
Besides generating energy, oil and gas can be used in so many different ways and maybe that is the reason why Shell demonstrated a lack of willingness to invest more on environmental friendly technology. It looks like they do not see the climate change as an urgent risk.
I am wondering what is their growth strategy? Will shareholders changes their mind if the climate change and followed regulations strengthened? It will be interesting to see what decisions Shell will made in the future.

Interesting perspective about the tea industry! It’s good to know that TGB is working on to keep providing quality tea at low price.
It looks like India and Srilanka are two of the major producer of tea and both regions are suffering from climate change. If that is true, I think the company’s risk is depend on the price elasticity of the demand of tea. How will customers act if the tea companies raise the price all together? Will customers consume more coffee instead? It would be interesting to know about customers behavior and impact on TGH and the tea industry.

On November 6, 2016, CP commented on “Eco Ship”: Future of Japanese Shipbuilding Industry :

Interesting perspective about shipbuilding industry! It was surprising to know MHI successfully develop energy efficient LNG carrier and already signed many contracts.

However, as far as I know, some of the Korean shipbuilding companies such as DSME, world 3rd largest shipbuilding company, have also developed energy efficient LNG carrier as well. And they also decided to concentrate on the LNG carrier market. Therefore, competition among competitors is inevitable.

To win the competition, MHI should have clear technical advantage over their competitors or should reduce their construction cost. It looks like they have technical advantage. However, can they achieve price advantage as well? Shipbuilding industry is labor-intensive industry and average salary of Japan is higher than that of Korea or China. Can MHI lower their cost significantly only with the suggested methods? It would be interesting to see the result in the future.

Interesting perspective about motor industry!
I agree with your opinion that HM and governments should try to reduce the number of gasoline cars. However, as you mentioned in your post, it directly conflicts it business objective of selling as many cars as possible.
To evaluate effect of tax on gasoline cars and subsidies for environment friendly cars on HM, we need to figure out relative competitiveness of HM in those market segments. Do you think HM could maintain their current market status at the segment of environment friendly cars as well? If not, would initiating reducing the number of gasoline cars be right action for HM?
